You know when John Piper describes his childhood public speaking problem?
I used to be exactly like that. I once had to give a public speech after class in high school because I was too afraid to speak in front of my class, and I barely got through that. My teacher gave me a “mercy” C. When we would return from mission trips in high school, I would refuse to say anything before the church about my experience, similarly to Piper. I just couldn’t do it.
All that changed sometime in college, and the biggest part of that had to do with a deeply driven desire to do what God wants me to do with my life. I’m no John Piper, and probably will never preach like the man who greatly influenced my life, but I am who I am, and I am very humbled that God chooses to use non-all-star guys like me.
